PRX Energy is participating in an Open Reports pilot in which details about the peer review process are published alongside published articles.
Details include:
Reviewer comments
Author response letters
The number of reviewers involved
In some cases, identities of reviewers
(if they choose to disclose them)
Our goal is to enhance the quality of peer review, recognize reviewers and their contributions that are vital to the scientific process, provide deeper insight into published content, and promote best practices in peer review.
What should I do if I want to opt-in?
Authors: Select your option when submitting your paper
Reviewers: Select your option when submitting your report
How does it work?
For all manuscripts submitted to PRX Energy, both the authors and reviewers have the opportunity to opt in to the Open Reports scheme.
Authors
Authors will be opted in by default but may choose to opt out when submitting their manuscript through the submissions server. Authors who opt out will not be asked again about Open Reports for the same submission.
Reviewers
Reviewers are asked to opt in or out via the reviewer server only if authors opt in.
Reviewers will be given the option when submitting their comments for the authors.
Reviewers who opt out will not be asked again about Open Reports for the same submission.
If authors opt in but no reviewers opt in, the paper will not be included in the Open Reports scheme (ie no peer review file will be published).
If authors opt in and only some reviewers opt in, only reports from those participating reviewers and authors’ replies to them will be published.
Reviewers who participate in the Open Reports scheme may opt in to disclose their identities in the published Peer Review File. Reviewer identities are not made public unless reviewers explicitly opt in.
Reviewer identities are disclosed only upon publication of the paper, not during the peer review process. Reviewers are requested to avoid self-identification while the paper is under consideration.
For those who work with a colleague to write a joint report, the reviewer who submits the reports makes the decision on behalf of everyone involved in writing the report.
If the manuscript is transferred to PRX Energy from another journal in the Physical Review portfolio, the reviewer comments and author responses from the originating journal will NOT be included in the Open Reports scheme.
The peer review file is published online in the Peer Review section of the paper.
