Frequently Asked Questions

Don't I already own this content?

An APS All subscription does grant your institution access to all content in our frontlist for the duration of your subscription, but Frontlist Perpetual Rights ensures permanent rights to the content, even if your subscription lapses

Doesn't Interlibrary Loan cover any gaps?

IIL is a fantastic tool for niche requests, but it often involves delays and per-transaction costs. For a high-output field like physics, providing unlimited, concurrent access through perpetual ownership removes the friction for your researchers. It ensures they have the data they need exactly when they need it, without the administrative burden or wait times associated with ILL.

How does this fit with our Open Access agreement?

APS is a strong supporter of the transition to Open Access. However, while OA content is growing, a significant portion of the most cited physics research remains behind a subscription. Securing perpetual rights ensures that your researchers have a 'safety net' of ownership for that critical non-OA content, providing a balanced strategy for both immediate access and long-term archival stability.
